Karen Tobler has been delivering seminars with her father, Dr. Buckeye, since 1983. This experience led to her co-authoring a series of books called Problem Solving Using Computers.
Karen received her teaching certificate in 1987 and a Masters in 1992. She has taught in Honduras, Illinois, and Michigan. In Michigan she started at Willow Run Community Schools where she worked for ten years Then she was hired in the Dexter Community Schools as a Curriculum Consultant where she also worked for ten years.
Karen has always enjoyed speaking and assisting teachers. At the 1995 regional NCTM meeting, Karen shared her wealth of knowledge while presenting two thematic units that stressed whole language. Her “Frog and Toad” and “Olympic” units showed beginning and experienced teachers the benefits of thematic teaching.
During the summer of 1995, Karen began working with Internet sites to provide ready-made units via the Internet. She began to receive requests for specific units and Units by Karen was started.
Over the last 20 years she has developed eight full books – called Thematic Units. In addition to 18 Thematic packs and 100 labs. From 1995 through 2000, Karen marketed her units at math and science conferences.
Today you can get all her units on one CD as PDFs with printable, student worksheets and teacher instructions.
